Yeah Whatever, Man

It's a long-standing joke in my family that the world's greatest comeback is "Yeah whatever, Man." It's infallible and foolproof as long as one says it correctly. I'm not even sure how to write it correctly, grammatically speaking, because its effect is solely dependent on the speaker. My dad is the one who started this tradition and he is the master. If you've ever met my dad, you would know what I'm talking about. Anyway, Lauren, Brooke, and I were talking about comebacks today and I mentioned this to them. In about ten seconds, Lauren had already succeeded in implementing it correctly. I've spent my entire life trying to perfect that line and it took her less than a minute. Oh, the unfairness. Anyway, there were some pretty funny back-and-forths between Brooke and Lauren that I thought I would share with the world.

"Your mom smells like pinneapple."
"Yeah whatever, Man."

"That black person looks like chocolate milk."
"Yeah whatever, Man."

"Your face looks like fart."
"Yeah whatever, Man."

Truly, the applications of this line are endless, and its power should never be underestimated.

Gentlemen Prefer Blondes

So...I watched this movie because in my film class we watched the "Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend" clip, and it was interesting. Plus, I'd never seen a Marilyn Monroe film before. I absolutely LOVED this movie. I need to own it. It was soooo funny, which I wasn't expecting. If anyone reading this has Netflix, watch it this weekend because it's not going to be free anymore. Here are some of my favorite quotes.

"Steve, suppose this ship hit an iceberg and sank, which one of those two would you save from drowning?"
"Those girls couldn't drown."

(spoken by an eight-year-old named is Mr. Henry Spafford the Third to Marilyn Monroe as she's hanging out a window) "I'm going to help you for two reasons. The first reason is, I'm too young to go to jail. The second reason is, you've got a lot of animal magnetism.

"Are you out of your mind?"
"Mm-hmm, but I like it that way"

"Listen, either you hock some of that stuff or get the price of a diamond tiara out of him"
"How much do you think a diamond tiara will cost?"
"Fifteen thousand at least."
"Let's see...that'll take an hour and forty-five minutes."

and my all-time favorite:

"Mr. Malone, I was wondering, what's your line?"
"My line? Well, my most effective one is to tell a girl that she has hair like a tortured midnight, lips like a red couch in an ivory room, and I'm lonely and starved for affection. Then I generally burst into tears. It seldom works."
"No, I mean what do you do for a living."
"Oh, you mean that kind of line."

Sigh

Deep, deep, deeeeeeeeeep sigh.

It's kinda funny...

...when someone says something offhandedly and you're not mad at them for saying it, even if it is somewhat offensive or potentially implies something negative, and you don't hold it against them because you know that they didn't mean it in a negative way, and really you're more mad at yourself because you can't stop thinking about it and you can't stop wondering and believing that there was some truth in it.

Maybe funny was the wrong word...

Friday, the 18th day of the 3rd month in the year 2011

So these are some thoughts, comments, exclamations, and all-around happiness from a pretty great day.

1- I actually woke up to my alarm and got ready. My hair was actually down. It's a miracle. This is obviously where my good day started.

2- I wore my Crypies jersey today, which also automatically makes this a good day. (for everyone who doesn't know the reference, let's just say the jersey is bright yellow and is associated with many great memories)

3- So, I woke up early so that I could go to a Mark Zuckerberg forum BUT it turns out that it's next Friday. So I kinda got up for nothing. Oh well.

4- I walked through a really cool exhibit at the MoA (because I suddenly had time to kill on campus) that had old war posters. It was interesting to see the propaganda, especially the images chosen for them. Truly intriguing.

5- More wisdom from Anna Karenina: "It showed him the eternal error people make in imagining that happiness is the realization of desires."

6- It was an absolutely gorgeous day today and I got to talk to my mom while sitting outside on the grass.

7- I took the OST (finally), got a ride home from Eric (who's amazing), and when I got home I got a call from BYU Independent Study wanting to know if I was available to interview for a job I had applied for a couple of weeks ago that I thought was closed. Hopefully something good might happen.

8- I walked to campus and watched this absolutely adorable movie made by Dean Duncan (my Intro to Film professor) and Tom Russell (another film professor at BYU) that's a documentary about home movies. The entire movie was their commentary and bunches of their own families' home movies. They were so adorable and funny and I've resolved that I need to document my future children's childhoods on film.

9- I experimented and made these kidney bean quesadillas that had mashed kidney beans, onions, taco sauce, chili powder, some Goya seasoning, and cheese. They were surprisingly tasty.

10- Eric, Kraig, and I went to the dollar theater and saw Tron: Legacy in 3D, which was really good - it was better than I had expected. I thought the visual effects were interesting and actually quite stunning in places, and the plot wasn't half bad.

11- Some songs I've found recently that I like a lot can now be found on the Grooveshark magic thing on the side of the page :) Enjoy.

Today has been an exceptionally good day, despite the fact that my friends are in Vegas for the weekend. Life is good today and hopefully the weather will be sunny tomorrow. I miss the sun. It's Tron's fault, with the cheesy "warm, radiant, beautiful" sun and the beautiful ending. Ayway, here's to fair weather.

Wisdom from Anna Karenina

"Besides that, she also could not be attractive to men because she lacked what Kitty had in over-abundance - the restrained fire of life and an awareness of her attractiveness.
She always seemed to be busy doing something that could not be doubted, and therefore it seemed she could not be interested in anything outside it."

-Leo Tolstoy in Anna Karenina

Is this my problem?

(please, nobody take this too too seriously)

I don't know why I find this commercial so funny

Seriously, I think this commercial is hilarious, and I'm not really sure why. Especially because they add an extra beat in their Chopsticks and it kind of throws me off every time. Oh well.

La vita e bella

This past week has been a balance of super good and kind of bad, but we won't dwell on the bad. Instead I just want to mention some of the super awesome and amazing things that have happened:

* watching Airplane for the first time (sooooooo funny :)

*Power Tumbling (need I say more?)

* Wendy's after Power Tumbling (who knew frosty floats could taste so good)

*the basketball game against Wyoming (which we won, by a lot, and which was a lot of fun - look up the flash mob on youtube)

*some new jobs opened up this weekend and I've applied for three already today (that has to be a good sign)

*we started reading Anna Karenina in my Russian Lit class (so good)

*Les Miserables 25th Anniversary Concert that I stayed up late to watch (who would have guessed that Nick Jonas would've actually done a pretty good job)

* L. Tom Perry fireside (so powerful and absolutely GORGEOUS music)

* Italian Sausage and Spinach pasta (drool)

* parentheses (who doesn't like them?)

I'm feeling awake today, and right now, life is looking good.
